About the project

The project aims to significantly invest in the training and support of professionals and foster families. It seeks to comprehensively address existing gaps in the support provided to foster families after a child has been placed with them. This includes equipping professionals, through specialised training courses, with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support foster families.

In addition, the project aims to ensure that foster families receive continuous support and guidance after taking in a foster child. Targeted measures will be developed to strengthen foster families in their demanding role and to improve their access to relevant resources and support services. A particular focus is placed on the sustainable improvement of the quality of life and emotional stability of foster children by promoting a stable and supportive environment.

Objectives

  • Understanding the perceptions and needs of foster parents and the professionals working with foster families
  • Promoting the integration of children at risk through training and support for both professionals and foster parents
  • Addressing stereotypes and biased beliefs regarding foster families and unaccompanied children

Activities

  • Development of a tool to understand the perceptions and experiences of professionals in relation to the recruitment of and communication with foster families
  • Development of a tool to understand the needs, perceptions and experiences of foster families
  • Creation of a tool to support the involvement of families
  • Training course on communication skills and strategies for professionals and/or foster parents
  • Recruitment and awareness-raising activities for foster parents
