About the project
The ALL IN project addresses the gap between EU integration policies and the actual social inclusion of migrants and refugees in Europe. While frameworks such as the Action Plan on the Integration of Third Country Nationals (2016) stress the importance of language training, teacher training and civic education, studies and Eurobarometer data show that integration outcomes remain mixed. ALL IN focuses on language and culture programmes for adult migrants and on the crucial role of teachers and host communities in making these programmes truly inclusive. With 6 partners from 5 European countries, bringing expertise in language teaching, training design, migration education, intercultural communication and soft skills, the project aims to use language education as a powerful lever for effective social inclusion.
Objectives
The project’s overarching objective is to promote real social inclusion of immigrant and refugee adults by enhancing the quality and impact of language and culture programmes. It aims to equip language and culture teachers with practical strategies to integrate soft skills, empathy, rapport-building and intercultural awareness into their courses, so that language learning also becomes a structured path to participation and mutual understanding. At the same time, ALL IN seeks to involve members of the host society and other stakeholders, counter discrimination and fake news, and increase the uptake of language and culture programmes by low-skilled migrant adults, ultimately benefiting both migrants and host communities.
Activities
To achieve these aims, ALL IN develops three main outputs. The “Train the L2 Trainer” course consists of 20 short training “pills” for language and culture teachers on how to embed soft skills and inclusive practices into their lessons. The ALL IN Manual provides guidance not only for teachers but also for institutions and stakeholders, and includes 20 practical activities and tools that can be used in the inclusion process, actively involving local community members. The third output, “True Stories”, is a YouTube documentary series of 24 episodes featuring migrants, refugees and host-society members sharing both successful and ongoing inclusion stories, designed to tackle stereotypes, fake news and fear-based narratives.
All three outputs are co-developed by the consortium, tested and refined before finalisation, and made freely available for language teachers, training institutions, migrant learners and the wider public. In this way, ALL IN aims to create lasting change in language education practices and contribute to the broader goal of effective social inclusion in European societies.
