About the project
This youth exchange brings together underprivileged young people from Belgium, Spain, Austria and Norway who grow up in socially and economically disadvantaged circumstances, often in institutions and with a migration background.
The project creates a safe international space where they can meet peers from other countries, explore religion, culture and society, and experience what it means to live in a multicultural Europe. Through non-formal learning, they reflect on their own identity and position in the world, build self-confidence and develop skills that are normally out of reach due to financial, social and cultural barriers.
The exchange also aims to open doors to future Erasmus+ mobility, showing participants that Europe and international opportunities are also for them.
Objectives
The project aims to:
Promote intercultural learning and tolerance
- Deepen understanding of different religions, cultures and lifestyles
- Gain insight into multicultural societies and young people’s own place within them
Support personal development and self-confidence
- Encourage self-reflection, self-growth and self-respect
- Strengthen leadership, communication and social skills
Broaden horizons for underprivileged youth
- Provide a wider perspective on life, beyond their local environment and institutions
- Raise awareness of what is happening in the world and how it relates to them
Build connections and future opportunities
- Create international friendships and networks
- Encourage future participation in Erasmus+ and other mobility schemes
Enhance employability and participation
- Provide concrete experience in teamwork, project planning and intercultural cooperation
- Offer a meaningful experience that can be added to their CV and used in job or study applications
Activities
To achieve these objectives, the project includes:
Youth exchange (29 participants incl. 2 facilitators)
- A multi-day international programme with workshops, group discussions, intercultural evenings and reflection sessions
- Almost all participants come from disadvantaged backgrounds (social, economic, cultural, migration-related)
APV – Advance Planning Visit (8 participants incl. 2 youth)

Youth-led non-formal learning activities
- Workshops on culture, religion, identity and diversity designed and facilitated by the participants themselves
- Group tasks that require cooperation, communication and conflict resolution
- Space for self-reflection on personal background, prejudice, discrimination and belonging
Shared project responsibility
- Young people are involved in planning (choosing and designing workshops), implementation (taking roles and responsibilities during the exchange) and evaluation (giving feedback and reflecting on learning outcomes).
