About the project

SAFE FUTURE – Raising Awareness and Building Resilience Against Irregular Migration is a 36-month European project funded by the European Union under the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF).

The project brings together partners from EU Member States and third countries to help young people make informed migration decisions through reliable information, digital literacy, and awareness of legal migration opportunities.

Many people considering migration are exposed to misleading information shared through social media, messaging platforms, and smuggling networks. SAFE FUTURE addresses this challenge by providing trustworthy, multilingual, and evidence-based information about the risks of irregular migration while promoting safe and legal alternatives.

The project combines research, innovative digital tools, community engagement, diaspora participation, and policy dialogue to strengthen resilience against misinformation and support informed decision-making. Activities are implemented across Europe and partner countries including Albania, Serbia, Türkiye, Egypt, Tunisia, Iraq, and Afghanistan through a strong international consortium.

Objectives

SAFE FUTURE aims to empower individuals and communities with reliable information and practical opportunities through five main objectives:

  • Counter misinformation by developing multilingual awareness campaigns and evidence-based communication that challenges false migration narratives.
  • Promote legal migration pathways by providing accessible information about education, employment, vocational training, and other legal mobility opportunities.
  • Strengthen digital and social resilience by improving critical thinking, media literacy, and community support mechanisms.
  • Engage diaspora communities as trusted ambassadors who can share real experiences and encourage informed decision-making.
  • Support evidence-based policymaking through research, monitoring, policy dialogue, and recommendations that contribute to more effective migration governance.

Activities

Throughout the project, SAFE FUTURE will implement a wide range of coordinated activities across participating countries, including:

  • Research and analysis of migration-related misinformation and communication trends.
  • Development of multilingual awareness campaigns across digital platforms and community channels.
  • Creation of the Safe Legal Paths Platform, providing reliable information on legal migration pathways, educational opportunities, and self-learning resources.
  • Production of videos, testimonials, infographics, podcasts, and other multimedia awareness materials.
  • Training programmes for youth workers, teachers, NGOs, community leaders, and diaspora representatives.
  • Community events, workshops, school activities, and local awareness campaigns.
  • AI-supported monitoring of online misinformation and migration narratives.
  • Policy dialogues, stakeholder meetings, and publication of policy briefs to strengthen cooperation between public authorities, civil society, and international organisations.
  • Dissemination of project results through conferences, toolkits, and open-access resources to ensure long-term sustainability and replication across Europe and neighbouring regions.
