About the project

GEM IN – Game to EMbrace INtercultural education – is a European initiative that promotes intercultural education in schools and non-formal youth settings. By using a board game and complementary tools, the project supports social inclusion, cross-cultural dialogue and active citizenship, with a strong focus on European common values. Building on the previous “GEM” good practice, GEM IN updates and scales this approach into a broader educational framework and provides policy inputs and recommendations on how to embed intercultural education and value-based citizenship more systematically in education systems.

Objectives

GEM IN – Game to EMbrace INtercultural education – is a European initiative that promotes intercultural education in schools and non-formal youth settings. By using a board game and complementary tools, the project supports social inclusion, cross-cultural dialogue and active citizenship, with a strong focus on European common values. Building on the previous “GEM” good practice, GEM IN updates and scales this approach into a broader educational framework and provides policy inputs and recommendations on how to embed intercultural education and value-based citizenship more systematically in education systems.

Activities

To achieve these goals, GEM IN structures its work in several interconnected strands. First, partners assess and adapt the existing GEM good practice, including methodology and learning experiences, and prepare a renewed pedagogical kit and digital tools suitable for different school and youth settings (WP2). This is followed by implementation and upscaling, where teachers and educators are trained, the GEM IN board game and toolkit are piloted with students and young people, and the full educational programme is finalised based on feedback from real-life use (WP3).

In parallel, the consortium develops policy recommendations and exploitation strategies to inform educational stakeholders and policy-makers about how to use GEM IN to promote common values, inclusive education and the European dimension of teaching (WP4). A continuous dissemination and communication effort – via website, digital archive, events and networks – ensures visibility, supports transferability and prepares long-term sustainability (WP5), while evaluation and quality assurance activities monitor progress and improve the relevance and quality of all outputs throughout the project (WP1 & WP6).
